Former San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler is taking a front office position with the Miami Marlins, according to multiple reports.

According to the Associated Press, Kapler is nearing a deal to serve as an assistant general manager for the Marlins.

Kaper confirmed the news on Friday to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“I think what is most intriguing is the opportunities to explore and impact all areas of baseball operations,” Kapler said in a text to the outlet.

Previously, Kim Ng served as the Marlins’ GM but left the position after helping engineer a playoff run, the first for the team in a non-shortened season since 2003, their second World Series championship season.

In November, Miami hired former Tampa Bay Rays exec Peter Bendix to run the Marlins’ baseball operations.

Kapler, who played in the majors from 1998-2010, was the manager of the Giants from 2020-23.

The former outfielder took the job after a two-year stint leading the Philadelphia Phillies from 2018-19.

Kapler has a career 456-411 regular season managerial record, highlighted by his 2021 in which he helmed the Giants to 107 wins and a spot in the playoffs, where they lost to the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS in a thrilling five-game series.

Kapler was named 2021 National League Manager of the Year.

This past season, the Giants finished 78-81 under Kapler before he was fired.

As a player, Kapler enjoyed stints with the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, Milwaukee Brewers, Rays and Boston Red Sox, with whom he won the 2004 World Series title.

Last season under first -year manager Skip Schumaker, the Marlins finished 84-78 — their best full regular season record since 2009 — and were swept in the National League wild card round by the Phillies.
