Mississippi is a shall-issue, permitless-carry state. Concealed carry is legal in Mississippi without a permit for any person who can legally possess a firearm as long as the handgun is carried in a holster or sheath. Statutes do not address the minimum age for permitless-concealed carry. Anyone more than 18 years old who can legally possess a firearm can legally conceal-carry a handgun without a license. For reciprocity reasons, two types of concealed-carry permits are available in Mississippi: The Standard Firearms Permit (SFP) and the Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (E-SFP), which allows carry in more locations. Concealed-carry permits are issued at the state level by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Is a permit required to purchase a handgun in Mississippi?

No. A permit is not required to purchase firearms in Mississippi.

 Who is eligible to obtain a Standard or Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (SFP) in Mississippi?

Any Mississippi state resident who is at least 21 years of age or 18 years old if in the military can apply for a Standard or Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (SFP).

Is firearms training a requirement in Mississippi for a Standard or Enhance Standard Permit (SFP)?

No. A firearms-training course is not required for a Mississippi Standard Firearms Permit (SFP). The Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (E-SFP) requires an 8-hour firearms training course by a Mississippi Department of Public Safety-certified instructor.

What are the requirements to obtain a Standard or Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (SFP) in Mississippi?

Applicants for a Mississippi Standard Firearms Permit (SFP) or Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (E-SFP) must:

 What are the steps to obtain a Standard or Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (SFP) in Mississippi?

  1. Download and complete an application on the Mississippi Driver Service Bureau website dps.ms.gov.
  2. Have the application notarized
  3. Take the notarized application to the Department of Public Safety or a Highway Patrol substation along with two forms of ID, a passport-style photograph, and fee. You will be fingerprinted. You will be notified in 45 days if your application has been approved.

How much does a Mississippi concealed-carry permit cost?

The fee for a Mississippi Standard Firearms Permit (SFP) or Enhanced Standard Firearms Permit (E-SFP) is 2. Renewals are , or for those 65 and older.

Does Mississippi recognize concealed carry pistol permits from other states?
