Gunna’s lawyer is done with the “lies.”
A day after the rapper was released from Fulton County Jail, attorney Steve Sadow took to Instagram to address the snitching allegations against his client.
“Gunna did not snitch to get out of jail,” Sadow wrote. “He has said nothing and is not cooperating. His plea statement cannot be used in court against any other defendant. So please stop spreading lies.”
Gunna had been behind bars since mid-May, when he and other YSL associates were accused of conspiring to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The 29-year-old artist, legal name Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, was released from jail on Wednesday after entering a guilty plea.
“When I became affiliated with YSL in 2016, I did not consider it a ‘gang’; more like a group of people from metro Atlanta who had common interests and artistic aspirations,” Gunna wrote in a statement provided to Complex. “My focus of YSL was entertainment – rap artists who wrote and performed music that exaggerated and ‘glorified’ urban life in the Black community.”
Gunna went on to say that he has “NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against” any parties in the case, which include his co-defendant/YSL founder Young Thug.
“[I] have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” he said.
However, not everyone was convinced by Gunna’s comments. Shortly after he pleaded guilty, Wack 100 suggested the rapper secured his freedom by snitching on other YSL members.
“He told,” Wack said during a ClubHouse chat. “Listen, you’re not pleading guilty to a RICO, and they’re freeing you. He did something.”
Another person in the chat claimed Gunna’s guilty plea was an admission that YSL was a gang. Wack clearly agreed.
“There go the telling right there,” he added.
As part of the plea deal, Gunna was sentenced to five years in prison. One of the years was commuted to time served, while the remaining four were suspended.
