Speaking on the All Things Quiz podcast, Troy said Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings inspired him to start his career as a quiz star.
"I was inspired by Ken Jennings most of all," he told the podcast.
"I remember watching him when I was 19/20, and thinking, I know it’s not a normal reaction, but, 'I could do that if I worked at it a little bit. I feel like I have that capability.'"
Since his debut on the show, Troy Meyer has taken home hefty earnings from his wins on Jeopardy!
In 2023, Troy won six games and took home a big 4,802 before losing to Jake DeArruda in his seventh match.
On March 13, 2024, during the second round of the Tournament of Champions finals, the Flordia native won ,800.
During the episode, Troy paid a sweet tribute to his late mother.
Speaking with Ken Jennings, the host asked about his noticeable patterned cardigan, "Tell us about the sweater; that is a choice."
Troy replied with a laugh, "Thanks for the compliment. So, my late mother worked at Saks Fifth Avenue in Cleveland for a long time.
"And - they probably wouldn't want me to talk about this on TV - one thing the salespeople would do is hide stuff in their drawers until it went on sale."
He continued: "And so my mom hid this for six months for me, my mom hooked me up with a lot of stuff throughout the years.
"I wear this sweater in tribute to her today," he emotionally concluded.
If Troy wins the last Tournament of Champions game on March 15, he will win 0,000.
