It feels like just yesterday when Kate Chastain introduced the world to her firstborn child, Sullivan Cay. Since then, the Below Deck alum has provided frequent updates on her new chapter, sharing her honest takes on motherhood and, of course, adorable moments with her now-1-year-old son. We’ve seen everything from Sullivan’s first day at the beach and first time crawling to his holiday celebrations and precious personality traits.

There's no doubt Kate’s “little man” is growing up fast, but his latest milestone might have you asking, “Where has the time gone?”

On Saturday, March 1, the former chief stew took to Instagram to announce Sullivan was heading to the classroom very soon — like, very, very soon.

“We are BOTH very excited for him to start school Monday,” she captioned the Story.

The video showed the toddler running toward his mom while rocking a big smile and a little backpack with an alphabet-and-dinosaur print.

“Look at you with your backpack on!” Kate said from behind the camera. “What’s on it?”

Sullivan stopped for a moment and let out a little laugh.

Kate welcomed baby No. 1 in May 2023, several years after her Below Deck exit. She spoke about her parenting experience in a previous interview with The Daily Dish, admitting it was much harder than she anticipated, especially as a single mom.

“It surprises me how it affects every aspect of your life,” she said with a laugh. “Driving, eating, sleeping, everything. But what’s also surprising is you don’t even mind because you just love them so much. I thought I’d be super prepared to be a mom. So I was like, everybody says it’s hard, but not everybody’s worked on yachts… And let me tell you, being a mom is way harder.”

Kate is now settling into a Florida home she purchased earlier this year. The ex-yachtie described the property as her “dream house,” insisting she was “never moving again.”

“I think what makes this house special is I’m not a person who likes modern interior design. Like [Below Deck alum] Ben Robinson, for example, loves modern. I feel like it’s cold and too perfect,” she told The Daily Dish in January. “I like something with a little personality, a little imperfections. [It] makes it interesting and beautiful. I’m just really happy.”

Kate said her new home is closer to friends and family members, aka “built-in babysitters.”

“Now that Sullivan’s getting older, I’m really excited to do a little height chart on his door frame,” she said about her new abode. “Cause I know we’re gonna be here for that many years to chart his growth, so that’s just really exciting and moving is exhausting so I’m happy to not be doing that for a long time.”
