Walgreens is closing around 1,200 stores across the United States, including one in Owego, due to struggles with a decrease in consumer spending.
The closures will occur within the next three years, starting with 500 stores being closed in 2025, Walgreens announced in an earnings report released in October.
"This turnaround will take time," said Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth, "but we are confident it will yield significant financial and consumer benefits over the long term."

Yes. The Owego Walgreens, located at 153 Main St., is closing on Jan. 28, 2025, according to a sign posted at the store's entrance.
According to a statement issued by Samantha Stansberry, of Walgreens communications team, they have "no Binghamton announcements" at this time.
"The process of evaluating our footprint is ongoing and evolving" said Stansberry, "and we will continue to provide advance notice to impacted team members, patients, and customers."
