Mobile Pantry Announcement
Mid-South Food Bank Mobile Pantry Program
Between 2019-2021, Mid-South Food Bank, alongside numerous non-profits, and corporate partners, received vital government assistance aimed at helping individuals and families regain stability faced with the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the new year, we are taking the opportunity to evaluate and reflect on several programs initiated in response to the heightened community needs during this challenging period, and how they align with our core business model.
This means prioritizing our core programs, strengthening our network of partner agencies, and investing in solutions that provide consistent and reliable food access. As part of this effort, we are scaling back our Mobile Pantry Program, which was significantly expanded during the pandemic through temporary emergency funding.
Before COVID-19, we operated 27 mobile sites, serving 5,614 households annually. At the height of the pandemic in 2023, we expanded to 186 mobile sites, reaching 62,890 households thanks to emergency relief funding. As funding has shifted post-pandemic, we have adjusted to 164 mobile sites in 2024, serving 54,180 households. In 2025, we anticipate operating 137 mobile sites, serving over 47,950 households
We recognize how this decision may impact our neighbors who relied on this service; however, we want to assure you that we will continue to provide essential support through our Core Partner Programs such as our brick-and-mortar pantries, soup kitchens, and pantry-supported deliveries which remain committed to serving those in need. The rush of COVID-related money from Donors, Foundations, and the Government is over, but the demand for services remains high.
We have included a list of mobile pantries canceled due to funding. If you need food go to the Find Food tab.
