Pokemon Go‘s Cherubi evolves into a Pokemon with two forms, Sunshine Cherrim and Overcast Cherrim, but it’s not immediately clear how to get both for your collection. Here’s a step-by-step to help you out.
Cherubi is a unique species, as it has a single evolution but with two very different forms. While in the mainline games, the forms constantly change based on the current weather, in Niantic’s game, things work a bit differently.
So whether you want to get Sunshine Cherrim or Overcast Cherrim, here’s everything you need to know about both Cherubi evolutions in Pokemon Go, including their Shiny availability.
In the mainline games, the Gen 4 Grass-type Cherubi can evolve into two different forms when it hits level 25, and both are called Cherrim.
The main shape Cherrim takes is its Overcast Form, where the Pokemon is enclosed by two purple petals, looking like a bud. However, when the weather changes to Sunny, it absorbs the rays of light and opens up to its Sunshine Form, with pink petals similar to cherry blossoms.
In Pokemon Go, things work differently, as there’s no shifting between forms. Instead, players need to evolve two different Cherubi if they want to get both Cherrim Overcast Form and Cherrim Sunshine Form.
The tiny Cherubi was released along with Lure Modules back in May 2019. However, it remains a difficult Pokemon to spot in the game, as its spawn rates are very low. Trainers hunting Cherubi can find it:
Cherubi being a rare Pokemon means players will struggle to gather the required Candy to evolve it into both Cherrim forms. Luckily, some events will make things easier.
Recently, the Spring into Spring celebration increased its spawn rates, while the upcoming Sweet Discoveries event will feature it in 7km Eggs with increased chances of being Shiny.
Pokemon Go players looking to evolve Cherubi into Cherrim Overcast Form will need to gather 50 Candy. The same amount will be required to evolve Cherubi into Cherrim Sunshine Form.
Unfortunately, there’s no way of deciding which form you’ll get, as this evolution is decided at random when you press the “Evolve” button on the Pokemon’s page.
However, while you can’t control which Cherubi evolution you’ll get in Pokemon Go, the weather does affect the Pokemon. So, you can hunt for a wild Cherrim Overcast Form, and – if you’re lucky enough – you’ll be able to find a wild Cherrim Sunshine Form during Sunny weather in the game.
As mentioned above, Cherubi is a rare Pokemon, so its Candy is scarce. You can only collect the resource by catching loads of Cherubi and using Pinap Berries to increase the Candy you get and then transferring any extra Cherubi you don’t want.
Overcast Cherrim and Sunshine Cherrim have the same stats, typing, and maximum CP. The only difference is that Cherrim Sunshine Form can learn an extra Charged Move, Weather Ball (Fire).
It’s worth noting that neither form is particularly good in Raids or in the Go Battle League, but Weather Ball (Fire) does give the cutest Cherrim an edge, as being a Grass-type with a Fire-type move is quite unique.
In Pokemon Go, Cherubi, Cherrim Overcast, and Cherrim Sunshine have the following stats:
Cherubi | 108 | 92 | 128 | 1074 |
Cherrim Overcast & Sunshine forms | 170 | 153 | 172 | 2315 |
These are the move pools available for each creature:
Cherubi |
– Tackle (Normal) – Bullet Seed (Grass/STAB) |
– Petal Blizzard (Grass/STAB) – Seed Bomb (Grass/STAB) – Dazzling Gleam (Fairy) |
Cherrim Overcast Form |
– Razor Leaf (Grass/STAB) – Bullet Seed (Grass/STAB) |
– Hyper Beam (Normal) – Dazzling Gleam (Fairy) – Solar Beam (Grass/STAB) |
Cherrim Sunshine Form |
– Razor Leaf (Grass/STAB) – Bullet Seed (Grass/STAB) |
– Hyper Beam (Normal) – Dazzling Gleam (Fairy) – Solar Beam (Grass/STAB) – Weather Ball (Fire) |
As pure Grass-type Pokemon, the family of three has the same weaknesses and resistances:
Yes, Cherubi and both Cherrim forms can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as they were all added to the game during the Sustainability Week event that took place in Apil 2022.
While Shiny Cherubi’s body goes from pink to orange, Shiny Overcast Form changes from purple to blue, and Shiny Sunshine Form just gets a lighter tone on the seeds on its forehead.
Remember that the odds of finding a Shiny Cherubi, Shiny Cherrim Overcast Form, or Shiny Cherrim Sunshine Form are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter.
The only thing trainers can do to increase their chances is take hunt and hatch as many Cherubi as they can until they come across what they’re looking for.
