In the southeast section of the Necrotic Lab area of the Mind Flayer Colony, there is a console. Interacting with the console using Illithid powers projects an empty neural map of one of the brains the Mind Flayers have been experimenting on. The neural map is basically a connect the dots puzzle; solving it allows to access the Waking Mind, which can be inserted into The Mind-Archive Interface at X: 699 Y: -117 in order to gain the permanent buff:
Githzerai Mind Barrier.
Solving the puzzle also grants the inspiration Brain Blast! for party members with the Sage background.
Note for console users: To use the nodes, console users should enter interaction mode (L3; pressing down on the toggle stick) and select "use" on each node.
Solving the puzzle requires to connect the four colored centers of the brain: Speech, Emotion, Memory, and Reason, to corresponding spots on the opposite side of the web of Neural Nodes. It is necessary to begin by selecting one of the four centers, then select each of the nodes that should be connected to it until a linked path is created, which reaches the corresponding center on the opposite side. Note: each brain center has its own individual path to the other side. The paths weave in between each other, but never use the same node. It does not matter which order the paths are charted in, as long as they are done one by one.
Once solved, a near door open to an area containing the Waking Mind.
Inserting the Waking Mind into the Mind-Archive Interface prompts a dialogue with the mind of a Githzerai who asks to purge their brain in exchange for their knowledge. Warlocks get an additional dialogue where they sense their Patron warning against trusting the Githzerai, allowing them to question the mind further about the circumstances leading up to their imprisonment in the Mind Flayer Colony. If choosing to purge their mind, the interacting party member gains the Githzerai Mind Barrier condition, which gives advantage on all intelligence saving throws.
