Yesterday, Larian Studios announced they will be opening a new studio in Warsaw, Poland. The new studio is set to join the family of six other Larian development teams, which are based in Quebec, Dublin, Guildford, Barcelona, Ghent, and Kuala Lumpur. When speaking of future plans for the Warsaw based studio, Larian Studio’s founder and CEO Swen Vincke says: “Our plan for the Polish studio is very simple. Build a team that can work on our two – very ambitious – new RPGs and enjoy the fruits of their labor.”
Poland has a very active and successful gaming sector, which is boosted by the efforts of the Digital Dragon’s programs designed to help up and coming developers. Larian are no rookies, however, and it will certainly be interesting to see what is produced by the team in the country which brought us the Dying Light and The Witcher franchises. Ula Jach has been confirmed as head of the Warsaw studio, bringing another win for not just Larian but Women in Game Dev too. Larian Studios Warsaw are hiring now, and all information and vacancies can be found on their website.
The announcement of a new studio comes following last week’s tweet from Swen stating that his speech at Digital Dragons 2024 would be one of the last times he speaks about the development of their most recent title Baldur’s Gate 3, as they wish to “focus on new things”. Since it’s official release in August 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold over 10 million copies and earned an impressive total of 37 awards, including GOTY from the likes of BAFTA, The Game Awards and The Golden Joysticks, and has produced a thriving online community.
