It is always calming to enter the world of Disney Dreamlight Valley to farm and decorate your house. It can be easy to forget that there is a dark story at play. Decorating the valley makes The Forgetting less scary, but it's still very much there..

The Forgotten is still at large, and you can access the final quest that completes this story by following the steps outlined below. The Dark Castle quest is your last chance at defeating The Forgotten, so we wish you the best of luck.

Please be warned that this article contains story spoilers for the last story mission in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How To Initiate The Quest

The Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

To unlock The Dark Castle quest, you first must have completed 'The Forgotten Relics' quest with Merlin.

You must first complete The Fairy Godmother's quest, 'What's Left Behind', and then wait a day before 'The Forgotten Relics' quest becomes available. This quest requires you to look for important items in villagers' lives, and after completing these quests, Merlin will want to speak with you.

Merlin will grant you access to The Dark Portal to finally deal with The Forgotten once and for all, so prepare yourself.

How To Enter The First Door

The interior of the Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Once you enter the castle, there will be a strange door before you. You can speak with it, and it will recognize that you are familiar, but something is missing. The door doesn't recognize you as The Forgotten, and you need entrance.

How To Disguise Yourself As The Forgotten

There are two ways you can disguise yourself as The Forgotten. As you level up your player, you will get rewards of the Celestial, Thorny, and Nightmare themes. From player Level 26-40, you will get The Forgotten-themed items.

If you are high level and have received these rewards, all you need to do is put on the Thorny Wings from Level 38 and the Onyx Crown from Level 40.

You can still disguise yourself as The Forgotten if you have not acquired these rewards yet. There is a wardrobe to the right of the room, and inside there is a Clothing Bag with Cardboard Wings and a Cardboard Crown that matches that of The Forgotten.

Either pair of clothing items will let you pass through the door.

How To Enter The Second Door

The Dark Castle's cooking puzzle in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The Dark Castle grounds will be riddled with Night Thorn. You must clean your way through each level.

Because of this, you should bring food with you to replenish your energy.

The next door will have a recipe book next to it containing a riddle. There are also ingredients on a table to the left. You must decipher the riddle to find out the recipe needed to feed the door and pass this level.

These are the notes you need to bear in mind:

Using this information, you can figure out that the recipe for Night Thorn Sprout Salad is as follows:

Then, all you have to do is feed the meal to the door to enter.

How To Enter The Third Door

The player using their camera to take a picture of the door in the Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The next door is simpler. At first glance, there is no door, only a wall with an arch. There is a note next to the wall that explains the way to reveal the door is by using a mechanical eye.

This means the lens on your cellphone. All you have to do here is stand in front of the door, take out your camera, and snap a picture with the wall in the background.

The door will appear after you take the photo, allowing entry.

How To Enter The Fourth Door

A player standing before the frozen key in the Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The last door requires you to place torches in the correct location to access the next area of the castle. These torches are titled by moon cycles and must be placed on the correct pedestal according to this cycle.

One torch will already be on the ground in front of the locked door. The others are stuck inside ice boulders, which you must use your pickaxe to break.

Torch

Location

Pedestal Placement

Dawn

In ice on the left-hand side.

On the left-hand pedestal.

Noon

In ice nearest to the locked door.

On the top pedestal, near the railing.

Dusk

In front of the locked door.

On the right-hand pedestal.

Night

In ice on the right-hand side.

On the pedestal closest to the locked door.

After placing each torch on its respective pedestal, the warmth from them all will melt the ice block above the well. A key is stuck in this ice block, which will then fall into the water.

Use your fishing pole to fish out the key. This will unlock the door.

How To Defeat The Forgotten

Players working together to close rift in the Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

After the last door, you will meet with The Forgotten. This will spell the end of The Forgotten's evil journey. You two will fight, and then you will be teleported to an empty room.

In this room, memories will appear that you will have to revisit with The Forgotten. For each memory, you must use your magic on the furniture item to return it to its original form.

During this journey, it is revealed that The Forgotten is the child version of yourself that got left behind when you grew up, and you welcome the child inside you back in.

After going through your memories with yourself, The Forgotten will heal. Together you two will use magic to remove the rift between worlds.

The Forgotten and yourself will return to the valley, where they will no longer be against the valley, and the villagers will forgive them.

The Dark Portal in the plaza will continue to be accessible, so you can revisit The Dark Castle any time.

The Dark Castle Secrets

The stone fox near the bed in the Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Aside from the cutscene at the end of this quest indicating a new villain will arrive in the valley, there are more secrets to uncover in The Dark Castle.

By following the hidden Mysterious Golden Potato questline, you will eventually access the Rainbow Potion. To activate this potion, you must head back to The Dark Castle and interact with the stone statue of a fox on the first floor. This will grant you a Rainbow Fox companion.

You will need to return to The Dark Castle to restore the pillar on Dazzle Beach. By returning to the castle, you will find a portal exit next to the first door. Entering this will teleport you to another floor in the castle. The Unity Orb will be here. Bring it to the pillar in Dazzle Beach to begin a new quest!
