Baldi's Basics is a meta "horror" game inspired by old edutainment games from the 1990s. Answer as many math questions as possible before you realize something isn't right, and then get out while you still can!
Before you begin playing Baldi's Basics, we recommend going to Options and turning down mouse sensitivity if you aren't playing on a Chromebook/laptop trackpad. This gives you much more precise control when looking around.
When you enter the game for the first time, you will be greeted by Baldi. He might seem nice at first, but don't let that fool you. He's the strictest and scary teacher of them all! Go around the school collecting notebooks and answering as many math questions as possible. Get one wrong and it upsets Baldi. The more you get wrong, the faster he becomes. You might notice that some math questions aren't even possible!
As you progress through the game, you will meet some of Baldi's "friends" - they will either help or hinder you. Keep playing the game to find out how to learn their personality. Be especially careful of the "Principal of The Thing", who will send to to detention if he catches you running, and Playtime girl, who will make you jump-rope with her.
Around the map, some objects can be used to your advantage. When you get your first math problems right, Baldi awards you with a shiny quarter. You can use this at the vending machine for a soda. Splash the soda on the characters to send them flying away!
Even though Baldi's Basics categorizes itself as a "horror" game, it is more of a humorous parody of edutainment games from the '90s. The game takes place in a retro-looking school and has an angry teacher, Baldi, chasing the player with a ruler. The game ends once Baldi catches up with the player. Despite this, the game is mostly safe for children as it doesn't feature scary gameplay and atmosphere, loud sounds, or other common horror tropes.
Even though the game's full name is "Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning", the game is not educational. It is, instead, a parody of old educational games from the '90s. That being said, the game does have the player frequently solving linear math equations. Younger audiences might benefit from the frequent math exposure and develop mental math skills.
Baldi's Basics is a hilarious re-creating of those creepy edutainment games in the 90s! The game isn't particularly scary, although it still kept us on our toes as we tried to quickly solve math problems and outrun Baldi.
